My R56 came standard with the short three times blinking with a little touch and constant blinking with a harder touch on the directions shifter. So, I assume you may be able to program it.

As fellow members said, YES you can programme it to blinik either once or three times. It is done through the settings, when the ignition is on....refer to the manual for details. Same way you programme many features, like daylights, auto lock, follow-me-home lights etc. Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius.

Well, I took delivery of my new Cooper last Friday. According to my dealer, from August onwards BMW have now programmed these settings with the most sensible defaults up front. So you'll probably find it does 3 flashes by default -- it did for me. Strangely, the options in the menu to change this didn't appear until I'd driven the car the 2nd time but as most of the options seem sensible, I confess, I've not had any reason to change anything.
