DIY window tints

Anyone know if you can retrofit window tints, have a few questions:

1) how?
2) Who can do it?
3) How much will it cost?
4) Are they robust ie won't fall or scrape off?

any help would be much appreciated.

Window tinting from the factory is Darkened Glass.

Aftermarket tinting will be a film that is stick to the glass. Ive got the windows on my MINI ONE done (and had them done on my previous ONE as well) and ive never had a problem with the edges peeling or anything.

As long as its done professionally it will be ok

Mine were done by a local tinting firm.

I would always get professionally and see if they have a lifetime warranty against peeling.
Should cost no more than £150 for all windows minus the windscreen of course

Are you talking about just the rears or the front windows too?

If the fronts, is it not illegal now to tint the fronts?

It's always been illegal to tint the fron Driver/Pass side, it's at the owners risk I guess.

Are the tints one-way, or does it make it harder for the passengers to see out? Only I quite like the look of tints on the MINI, but my kids would object if they can't see out.

Tints can not dicriminate, they reduce the amount of light entering the car and therefore your eyes.

They will still be able to see out, during the day at least.

I had my old car rear windows tinted and it looked great.
My opinion is
It is difficult to look in - good for security
Helps keep your car cool - along with passengers or pets
Barely affects looking out - just like wearing sunglasses
Will protect your interior from strong sunlight (if we get any this year!)
Always makes a MINI look even better

I paid about £170 for mine, and the job was superb

If you get caught with the front windows tinted, the Police watch you struggle to rip it out, before letting you drive off - with your fine (ask my sister - oops!)

Yes, but would you wear sunglasses at night!

Not you Andrew, I know you only got the rears done.

No offence to your sister, but it is against the law

Was that Terry? I got mine done there and he did an awesome job, £75 for 3 windows and chucks in a free sun strip.
