Bluetooth & compatible phones

I am due to collect my new R56 Cooper S with the full bluetooth kit next week and was hoping for advice from current owners regarding compatible phones.

I currently have a Nokia N95 and have read mixed reviews as to whether full functionality is available or not. Can anyone give advice on what current phones will work fully with the bluetooth system (by fully I mean calling up phonebook and showing names etc on the stereo unit)?

Also anyone with an N95 that has got full functionality please also get in touch

Thanks

You might find the Bluetooth compatibility thread over on NAM useful. The N95 sees some coverage in post 13, but it's a North American version:

I know this isn't a help to you, but in case it helps someone else in the future: My T-Mobile MDA Vario III (AKA. HTC TYTN II, HTC Kaiser, AT&T Tilt, O2 Stellar) works beautifully, with good calls, and full phonebook

The N95 does indeed work, however it doesn't download the phone address book to the car by default. There is some software on the Nokia website (although well hidden) that you install on the phone and it does it for you. I have noticed though that since using this software on my phone, my iCal sync to sync my MacBook calendar and phone calendar has stopped working.

The software is called something like 'Contact Downloader' or something - if you can't find it I can put it on my web space for you.

Thanks for this astilla - I have Nokia PC suite on my laptop and it includes this software, so what exactly do you have to do to get the phone address book to transfer, etc??

Once you've uploaded the application (the .sis file) to your phone - find it and run it. It'll ask you whether you want it to auto-start each time. I said yes so it automatically sends any changes to the car.

Then, once your phone is paired with the car it should automatically download the address book to the car - can take a minute or too so just be patient... :-)

The voice-dial address book on the car is a separate entity - you can save name tags to that even if you don't have the phone address book downloaded to the car.

Thanks again Astilla, I've downloaded the software to my phone in preparation, now just gotta wait for my car. Originally meant to take delivery Monday but they've told me it should be ready Friday afternoon (just over 24hrs to wait!) - so fingers crossed!!

I assume once paired, the phone connects to the car everytime - this is the case with my parents and friends cars who have bluetooth??

my one took ages to down load as in 200km I gave up in the end with my Nokia after downloading it from the spanish site, THen attending a mini evening later that evening it said Download complete on my phone and it now works!!! weird. Although the phone itself now says System error on my mobile every time I hop in the mini, Biut I don't care I have full functionality on my NOKIA 6120. which is not even listed as a software compatable on the download patch.
But it works ....eventully

MOTOROLA should work

Yup - seems to be the case although I've not added any new entries to my address book in my phone since I set up the pairing.

Picked up my amazing new Cooper S Friday, unfortunately been unwell all weekend but with all the tips on here managed to pair phone at dealership and all working fine. Updated phonebook over the weekend and simply deleted pairing in car and phone and added again to update the contacts in car
