hello everyone,
does anyone know if its possable to have an r56 mini's speedo converted to km from miles and if so whats involved and prices if anyones undertaken it? i know i can change the digital read out in the setting but im just wondering about the speedo in the centre console.
Thanks in adavnce, cheers
you can get anything mate. but its gonna cost . you will need lots of work doing i should imagine. i was thinking of getting the new style speedo (80 mph is where the 70 mph is on the old one) but was thinking it would be too much work!
I'd imagine that its calibrated to be in the same position in mph and kph (the needle is as responsive as you can switch the digital display around) as it would be cheaper to make that way for mini!

To change from km to miles is as simple as changing the face of the dial. The direct km to mph values will be in the correct place. ie 60mph will be very slightly before the position of 100kmh.
To change the face with the digits in new locations (ie 80 where 70 is) would require the speedo to the calibrated, but since the digital and analogue use the same outputs it would require a new servo motor behind the analogue clock and that would take some working out, or find someone that could remap the chip behind the speedo, and I am not sure that it would be that easy to get at the code let alone change it.
I dont need to make my car go faster, I just need to learn to drive it faster.
i was just thinking surely if its as simple as changing the face of the dial, zero would be wrong then? as the needle would come to rest in the same place if you get me?
The only way to know for sure would be try and get some pictures of the different facia's for the speedo's one in mph and the other in kmh.
It appears that there are different versions even here in the UK, some have 70 mph in the centre uppermost postion and mine a Cooper D as 80 mph in the centre uppermost postion. This would imply that you would need to buy a facia that as the equivilent sppeds in the correct position.
Post a pic of yours and maybe we can identify a model in the UK that would give you the correct readings.
