Hi
I see that Garmin do a mount and sat nav unit in the MINI accessories brochure.

Does this have to be fitted by a MINI dealer, and what choice of units are there?

Are there any other equivalents out there? (I see newministuff do a Clarion, but there's no pic of the mount - which is apparently near the glovebox release button, which sounds odd!)

Rich

You can use any of the NON widescreen Garmin units. I have the 255, it can bought for less than £100 if you shop around. BMW want £145 for the same one.
The mount can be self fitted but apparantly its a pain, my Dooper is going in weds for one fitting, they are charging me £91.50 fitted.

I dont need to make my car go faster, I just need to learn to drive it faster.

The mount is easy, but figuring out the electrical pin connections from the very bad instructions is the royal PITA.

The delay was due to the new mount being launched, now fitted...very pleased.

Thx for that quick reply, I did speak to the local dealers, but they didnt know anything about it, but came back to me quickly to tell me yes it does exist and to let me know my new garmin unit which they recommended would not fit the mount. brilliant !
So I,m stuffed. I,m assuming there is no way of adapting the mount to fit the widescreen garmins?
Your initial reply to this post was really useful and helpful I hope others read it and dont get caught out as I did, by taking false advice from dealers. I did ask them before i bought it to recomend a garmin unit which could be mounted permanantly to the dash.

I dont see why a Widescreen could not be used, it comes with a TomTom mount and I tried my widescreen TomTom on it, it was a little too big but not a problem.
I have sent you a PM.

Hi Caveman,
Many thanks for posting up the shots of your installation. Its certainly got me thinking of adding a new garmin to my motor.
I have an older TomTom thats the size of a grapefruit , and have thought about upgrading to a new unit, and your garmin setup has given me some food for thought.

Is is just the 225 that you can use on the garmin front, or can I find a list of other units the mount will support ?

Thanks again
Andy

Hi, you can use any garmin that does not not have the 'Traffic' update stuff, they use a different connection for power, if the sat nav uses a USB connection its ok, but i would steer clear of the widescreens.
I have a Garmin 1340 and a 255 both of which are ok (PS I have the 255 for sale via the classifieds)

The pictures above are with the 255.

I dont need to make my car go faster, I just need to learn to drive it faster.

Thanks, Caveman.

What was the cost of the mount, and how long did it take to fit?

Also, can it be removed without leaving a mark?

Rich
