I can vouch for the fact that it works ('59 Dooper) but am missing the point

I tried this today and it worked as described.

I've not decided if I would use it or not. I'm not one for leaving my car defrosting on the drive while I'm not with it, I usually like to drive off as soon as I can on a frosty morning.

I like driving in my car, it's not quiet a Jaguar.

agreed...this topic came up today at the dealership, customer actually thought that this was a fluke (or that their car had accidentally been built with comfort access....wishful thinking!)

the process works just as iPap describes. have never heard of an "official" reason for this, but I have to believe it is intended for people who wish to start their car on cold/snowy days, then lock it and go back inside while the car warms up.

i doubt you'll ever see remote start on these cars, so this is the next best thing if you want to warm up your car before you go driving off!

As stated earlier...

Start as normal.
Remove foot from clutch.
Press start/stop to stop engine.
Remove keyfob.
Wait 1sec, depress clutch and press start/stop (within 10sec) to start engine.
Walk away and lock.

You can also lock the car with the fob and the engine remains running!

Resurrecting an old thread for a new mini - any idea how to get this to work with the automatic R56? I have tried replacing "clutch" with "brake" pedal in the above method (as that is what u need to do to start the automatic normally) but with no success.

it can only be started when the gearshift is in 'park' so it shouldn't go anywhere
