Posted this on tM;

I bought the IP4 version for my JCW it's part number is; 84 21 2 218 390

Here are my findings;

- Play music through the snap-in - yes
- View album art via snap-in - yes
- Play video via snap-in - *NO*, the video selection option doesn't appear in visual boost (does when connected to USB), have tested it using YouTube app & iPod. When using YouTube this application says that video is being sent to TV and doesn't show on the iPhone.
- Audio from other Apps such as TomTom - yes, audio comes through fine, as mentioned above there is no video for apps such as youtube (stopped with handbrake on)
- Make phone calls using only snap-in - *NO*, requires bluetooth to be enabled on the phone
- Full use of remote/controls on steering wheel/VB - yes
- Mini Connected use? - *Unknown*, having Mini Connected retrofitted on 24th.

Other thoughts;
The phone does get warm when the display is on - when using TomTom for example but not excessive.

I saw another post saying the video needs to be set to NSTC, rather than PAL .... is that how you have it ?

THE New MCS I have on order will have the full Media Pack (inc. Sat Nav) so I'm hoping it will all work.

If you have it on PAL it goes black & white with coloured bands.. switch to NTSC and it works a treat!

Based on my experience with the Y-Cable (still need to purchase the snap-in) Mini Connected also needs bluetooth to be enabled.

Does it support the 'plug-in' feature and video playback?

Certainly no for video, doesn't show plug-in within Connected, have to confirm that is working tomorrow by trying the y-cable.

I suspect it won't show it as I think it uses the video out function of the iPod.

Just seems bonkers that BMW can't design a cradle or system that works for all the features of the car - ie you still need to carry a y-cable if you want to use some of the stuff !

Mental!

All I need to know then is what the right part number is for the 3GS.

I'd be really interested to know if you see a better signal from the snap-in too btw.

The snap-in I purchased is meant to be a full media version, you mention the signal? I presume you mean mobile phone signal?

It's tricky as I generally get a good signal in my day to day travelling to work.

I've heard that some believe there is an induction loop within the snap-in to aid the signal for the iPhone as there is no arial connection within the Apple dock connector.

I have no details as to whether this is true or not.

yes, thats my understanding - inductive loop system.

If you have a regular commute you almost need an app to log the signal strength on your journey without it in the cradle, then with it in.

I'll have a dig around to see what I can find, if nothing, a mate of mine can knock something up for us so we can finally put this to bed!
