Yes it is bound to be the case - Mini are not just offering the Snap-in for 2011 Minis. R56 Minis prior to the 2011 update have different electronics and options and therefore require a different snapin.

In addition to that. Somewhere on this forum I've read about previous snap-in adapters and there seem to be different versions of each snap-in; In terms of the 'full-wired' and the ' not-full-wired' versions. They suposably differ in costs and in functionality

Maybe this is also the case with the Ipone-4 snap-in??

Yes, for the iphone 4, there are 3 different snap in adapters:

Basic: Only charges. Part-number: 84212199389 , 85 euro
Music: Only players music (no cover art support). Part-number: 84212199390, 129 euro
Media: Shows coverart and plays video. Part-number: 84212199392 149 euro

Only the basic is currently available.
The difference in price between the music and media is idiotic as both have "full" USB , so technically there shouldn't be any price difference.

Surely no-one in their right mind would pay 85 for something to charge the iPhone. OK, it looks neat, tucked away in the armrest but 85??
Cigarette lighter socket USB would do the same for 5 euros.

visual boost?

Hi

I just received my MINI Cooper Countryman five days ago (after waiting 5 months). I clearly told my car dealer that I wanted to be able to play music from my iPhone and that I wanted to be able to see all the playlists on the screen. Therefor I ordered it with MINI Visual Boost. I asked my dealer what I needed more than the visual boost to make this work, and he told me that I needed 6FP and 6ND. He assured me that I didn't need anything more than that. I asked if I needed the 6NE, but he said no.
Now that I have received my car, I can't play music from my iPhone. When I plug it in with the regular usb wire from Apple, I can see all the playlists and songs on the screen, and I can play them...., BUT there is no sound at all!
Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem?
The only way I can get sound is if I plug in the jack cable as well in the audio in beside the usb port. Do I really have to use two cables? It looks so untidy...
Can somebody please help me with this issue? Do I need the 6NE? Do I need to get mad on my car dealer?

Thanks!

Irrespective of what you do and don't actually need, I think you need to sort it with the dealer - you've not got what you asked and paid for. That said, when I ordered my Dooper back in late 2009 I made sure I had all the option lists and pricing and with some help from here and NAM, I got all the right bits. You do need a decent, knowledgeable dealer though and it might turn out you know more than them.
I thought newer cars had different options and that the 6NE/F was no longer needed like it was when I got my car.

Is your Iphone on the latest OS 4.2.1 - there was a problem with previous versions of the OS where it would exhibit exactly the symptoms you describe - I posted about it and the Puma reference number for the problem.

Hi I just picked up my mini soho clubman at the weekend and can get music playlists and video through the iPhone cable. You shouldn't need anything else

I finally got the snap-in adapter for the iphone 4. It's an "second" generation media version. There was a first generation out in the beginning of the year which got pulled back because of heating problems.

The second generation has a fan in it, which you can hear when the engines off. Otherwise, it's inaudible.

The bad news is that the "ipod plugin" does not work. (The one where you have an ipod like interface to navigate through the menus). Quite a shame, as I liked it a lot.
You do get video and cover art in the other USB menu option, but it's slow.

The rest of the Mini Connected features do work, though...

Is it an official mini part number or is it the BMW one?

Ive just emailed BMW MINI for clarification on this as it seems crazy to have these features and then not have full functionality! Especially when they used to work pre 03/11 builds via the front USB
Out of interest do you have a seperate ipod touch that can be used via the front USB to get the Plug-In ipod type controls?

I would like to know if there is a need for "programming" after the installation of the snap in adapter?

Is people's only reason for even wanting the snap-in adapter that it is neater than the cable? I cant see why the functionality of certain options within the MINI connected app are limited to only working with the snap-in as effectively this data could all be sent through the USB cable.

I was very annoyed to have purchased the full MINI connected pack, bluetooth, etc to find the snap-in wasnt included and further that even if I did shell out extra for it it doesnt work well!
