Snap-in adapter for iPhone 4 NOW available!

Hi all!
The new Snap-in adapter for the iPhone 4 apparently just came out today!
My MINI Dealer can order one for me.
The price is 117£ though... Not sure if that's worth it... Have to think about it, cause the cable isn't even half the price! But... The adapter of course is a much tidier solution.

£117??? Thats nearly a good enough reason to stick with the 3G (or I'd get a 3GS if only it was available as a 16 or 32GB)

Ok.
I bought it today (they had ONE in stock) and I tried it out at the Dealer's. And guess what... It doesn't really work. I wasn't surprised I have to say.
The iPhone was charging in the cradle, but I couldn't hear any music through my car's speakers. Also the instructions say, that there will be a message coming up on the phone when you plug it in, but it didn't happen. The iPhone4 wasn't being recognized by the MINI at all.
The dealer told me he will try to find out what it is and I can keep it for that time. If he can't figure it out, I can bring it back of course.

No further info on this yet. He said I'm the first they sold it to, so they have no experience with it yet.
I think the car might need a software update for the iPhone4, so it can be recognized by the car?

Anybody else who spent that much money for the adapter and got it working?
Well, maybe I'm the only one who was willing to pay 117£ (I was thinking about it for a while though...)

I just read about the 6NF option in an older thread. So, I guess you have to have this option in order to play music from your iPhone, no matter which one it is.
How do I know if I have that option and why didn't the dealer inform me about anything like that?
I know, you wouldn't know, but I will definitely ask my dealer.

I would imagine there will be two versions of Snapin for the Iphone 4 - one for models pre 08/2010 and another for models after 08/2010. My guess is that the model you have bought is for a pre 08/2010 which would charge and recognise music data but not transfer the audio tracks.
The symptoms you have are exactly the same as when i used my pre 08/2010 Iphone 3GS snapin in my 2011 Mini - phone charged ok but could not get any sound through speakers. Problem was solved when I got the updates Snapin for Iphone 3GS for updated Minis builts after 08/2010. BTW When the updated Snapin was used I did get the message on the Iphone whereas using the old snapin I did not. I am using latest Iphone 0S which is the same on both 3GS and Iphone 4.

PS Option 6NF is Telephone Bluetooth Audio Interface which the Iphone does not support. For USB Audio through the snapin you need option 6NE which you should have with the option "Full Bluetooth with USB"

Thank you for the info scillyisles!
That might be it. Will call my dealer tomorrow and ask him about different versions on the snap-in adapter.
Yes, I have the "Full Bluetooth with USB", so it should work in the snapin then.

Pretty sure the 6NF consists of (among maybe other things) an extra cable up to the snap-in which routes iPod audio to the audio system. It doesn't go via BT.

Exclamation iPhone 4 Snap in adapter

I have a 2011 model MCS with media pack (visual boost, mini connected, full Bluetooth, navigation)

I have waited 5 months to get the Iphone4 adapter and I am pretty disappointed.

The adapter recognises the iPhone and plays audio however it will only play from playlists. The USB cable gives the option to search on artist, album, genre etc but the 117.00 adapter does not.

The adapter does not support video playback either which means that you need a video cable as well as the adapter to make use of all features.

The iPhone does not support office features either but you need an iPhone to use Mini Connected. This means that to make use of all the features you need more than one type of phone, the snap in adapter and the video cable. Not really great connectivity hey.

As one of the first customers to get these options I find it pretty frustrating to not have answers to these issues over 5 months later.

Very frustrating!

Thats a crazy price for what is a piece of plastic and nothing more really. Plus it has arrived so late the iPhone 5 will be out in 4 months!

Its annoying that this isn't a slick option as first thought and that still the best way to make use of most of the option is a lead sticking into the middle on the dashboard on full display!

That definitely IS frustrating! The snap-in should give you at least the same options as a cable, if not even more!!! And is more than double the price of the cable!

Well, I just got a call from my dealer. He said, that the adapter is NOT for my car, cause I don't have the option that is needed for it.
But there will be another adapter available (whenever that will be...) which should (hopefully) work in my car.
We'll see.

That IS F***ed UP!!!

They advertise with being on top of new technology. Then they lure us to pay lots for mini-connected and mini-wired. Then they want us to pay extra for a cradle. Only to find out that the snap-in adapter doesn't supoort the advanced tech???? They mus be out of their mind!!!

I just bought a Cooper-D (2011) and chose al those features (same as yours) explicitly for my Iphone-4. Unbelievable that they couldn't match it..
Did they say anything about a software update being reased soon?

Hey

No, no mention of a software update and I took my car to service to have a look at. Very nice people however they were scratching there heads. They agree how ludicrous it is.

My salesman told me he spoke to mini technical about it. Wait for this. He was told by them that the had not had an iPhone 4 adapter for testing. So they are selling it but mini technical have not had one to test functionality.

Where do you go from here. Paid good money for mini connected and full bluetooth. Paid even more money for the adapter that has les functionality than the free white iPhone cable. Lol

On mini.com/connectivity there is a support page (its somewhere in the mini connected section). Maybe that 'll get you in touch with the mini-technical folkes?
Dunno if it'll make a difference, but hey it's worth a try...

My dealer in Holland promised me he'd be on the phone as soon as the I-phone4 snap-in will be available, I'll guess my phone wil be ringing soon...

I'll keep checking this site for your (and others) findings

Just make sure you test it out before leaving, my dealer (Mini Den Haag) got me the iphone 4 adapter which they told "did everything", but after I tested it, it only seemed to charge and do nothing more...

Thx I will.

In addition to that. Somewhere on this forum I've read about previous snap-in adapters and there seem to be different versions of each snap-in; In terms of the 'full-wired' and the ' not-full-wired' versions. They suposably differ in costs and in functionality

Maybe this is also the case with the Ipone-4 snap-in??
