Ok I thought I'd resurrect this thread as I've finally decided which way to go.

I've just placed an order with mikey the mini for the pillar tweeter upgrade with clarion tweeters and the extra channel swap loom. Should get my hands on it on Saturday and me and a mate who knows about ICE are going to fit it all in. I'll update once fitted to let you know how it went and more importantly how it sounds.

I am expecting it to be good as from certain posts in here and total mini it has very good reviews and as mentioned previously much better than "pants" stock set up!

Ry

Got the a pillar tweeters and channel swap fitted today. Took 45 mins and the result is fantastic.

If you own an second gen mini and think the stereo is pants this is the best money you could spend.

Well recommended

Agreed - I got this from Mike too. But the bass is still a bit off - the filter in the amp unit it seems. But still worth it IMO.

The speakers and stereo in my Mini Cooper Clubman s, is decent. Unfortunately my wife and I are "classic rocker" generation- Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Beatles, etc... and it just doesn't get loud enough! No, we are not hard of hearing, we just like loud music. Some music, like Led Zeppelin, and even Nirvana, are meant to be played loud. That being said, I don't think that my stereo speakers are "pants", however they just aren't gonna "cut it"! I am going to upgrade both front and back speakers, and install an amp. I am a licensed General class ham radio operator, with of course, an extensive electronics education. I will have no problem making the installation myself, but I am a little old school. Someone here said that 1st generation 2009 mini stereo systems didn't limit the sound going into the front speakers. My question is this, how do you know which is 1st, and which is not? Do you go by the car's VIN number? Would save me a little time to know. By the way, My wife and I absof***inglutely LOVE our Mini! Bought it brand new right at the end of 2009, all I have ever had to replace (other than normal matin. brake shoes etc...), is a battery. The fact that we live near Phoenix Arizona, is the only reason we had that expense. The desert heat here will kill a car battery after several baking summers. I have to say to our British friends, Thank you for such an sweet ride. Mini rocks!!

Just a thought, what is the source of your 'Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Beatles, etc... '? The reason I ask is that some similar mp3 tracks I had on a memory stick were actually too loud in my car. Realising that not all mp3s are created equal, yesterday I attempted to normalise them all, using a free program called MP3gain, to its default volume of 89 dB. Result was the volume control needed to be right up, much too quiet. Back to the drawing board ...

First subject in FAQ section of these forums. Second generation cars don't limit the sound for the front speakers but they limit the bass going to the rear speakers.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs
