2012 Countryman and ipod Classic 160gb - keeps crashing

Hi,

I've got a new Countryman with the visual boost navigation system with all the extras (including the Harmon Kardon speaker system).

I have a 6th generation ipod classic 160gb with about 100gb of music on it.

The ipod is connected to the stereo using the y-cable supplied by mini.

Everything works, most of the time!

Every few days, usually as I go to chose something to listen to, the ipod will just re-boot itself, but when it has finished re-starting, if I go to select it as an input source, it just crashes again.

This carries on until I connect the ipod to another docking system and then it works fine again in my Mini.

I've tried it with an identical ipod classic which lives in my wife's car and after a few days the same thing happens.

Mini have sent me a replacement y-cable but that hasn't helped.

Has anyone else had this?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Anthony

Presumably your 160GB works fine in the other car?

It's not failing on the same tracks?

Do USB sticks work OK in the USB?

It works fine in my wife's car, and her's works fine in her car. And it worked fine in my old car (Audi A5), so I'm pretty sure its not the ipod.

Not failing on the same track either.

I will try a USB stick and see what happens.

Any ideas though?!

Will do, but I wonder whether anyone else has had the same experience?

Yes I have multiple 160gb classic ipods and they all seem to do this after while in the car. My car is LCI sep2010 Mini Cooper D with Sat Nav, HK system .
Mine will all recover if you do a reset on them (hold down menu and play buttom on the Ipod until it reboots)

I'm pleased I'm not the only one this happens too.

The reset trick doesn't work for me though - tried it many times.

The only way to get the ipod working again is to plug it into my wife's car. Works fine straight away and then works fine in my Mini.

The advice from the dealer was that I was twisting the Y-cable around too much as I was trying to leave the ipod in the centre rail which was funny as that's exactly how its shown in their own brochure!

Having said that, so far this week no issues, but its only Tuesday.
