I've got a 2008 R56. I've bought an aftermarket iPod Y connector cable. When I plug it into my iPhone or iPod, it takes ages for it to recognise the device and then scrolling between songs / artists etc causes it to pause and lock the screen, however the music is still playing.
Is there a soft reset option to try to clear this through or is this a common fault? Could be cable related, it was £10 from eBay.
I was going to buy a 'Y' cable from eBay but was not entirely sure it would work. I think the cable contains electronic circuitry and/or the odd EPROM. I suspect the cable you have is not fully compatible. I guess the only way to test this is to buy an approved cable from BMW.
Ive tried the cheaper amazon / ebay cable without success - dealer cable worked first time but a word of caution do try it in the dealership as it took him two goes to get the right part number , finally he went away back into the parts dept with my chassis number then came back out with the correct lead ! - there seems to be a few leads that look the same but you really need the exact one for your build / chassis number mine work fine now , btw ive a brand new 62 plate london 2012 and its ace! 1 -
In the end, I returned the cable and bought one of these:
Verbatim 43942 32GB Netbook USB 2.0 Flash Drive:...
It fits perfectly, is completely invisible effectively as its black and sits so flush under the main console. I accept that it's not an iPod and therefore doesn't have playlists etc, however, I spent a bit of time moving my music across and setting up a file system I can use and it's a perfect solution. I can leave it in the car 'on display' at all times without the worry of someone wanting to smash a window to nick it!
