I changed broken 16" antenna to a short 3" one and now it doesn't get am reception at all...is it possible that it is the length of antenna ? Or perhaps something wrong with radio?...anyone have or heard of this problem before?.....
It shouldn't make a difference at all to be honest! Otherwise as your car goes up and down hills it'd cut out! No idea what it would be though as the antenna is passive with no power apart from the receiver in the radio..
I can't remember the brand name...not expensive though...I threw the old one away as it had been broken from going thru car wash by previous owner....you're right though..size shouldn.t matter but so often it does......the problem is probably with the radio itself...when the weather gets warmer here I'll have to remove it and check it out thoroughly although I was hoping to avoid that...thanks all for your quick and insightful remarks...stay safe
There is an amplifier (in the rear hatch I think) on the antenna and I think that has most effect on AM. It is on vehicles with DAB or TV or Nav or Boost or Hi-Fi speakers. No idea why the latter would need an antenna amplifier . Does sound a long shot though that this is giving a problem at the same time the antenna itself was replaced.
Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs
