United-Kingdom Sat Nav update disc not reading

I have a 2007 MCS with factory nav etc, the nav works fine but when i got the car it had no DVD in the drive.

Ive just purchased a new DVD (not a genuine one but have had a few from them before) and when inserted into the drive it does nothing, there is a bit of whirring but no mention on a map updating.

I just perplexed because usually the system needs a disc to work or if uploads to a hard disc in the system and works from that I would expect some sort of message. I dont know wether to take it to the dealer who want stupid money or try to reflash the system with winkfp or get a new drive

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

A 07 R56 with Navigation would have a CCC unit. It needs the DVD to access the data, there is no hard-drive like the newer CIC units (2010+).

Have you bought the correct DVD disc? You need "BMW Digital Road Map Professional 2014". If you already had 2013 in the drive, then there will be no update message. I saw this being reported by several people who tried 2014 version. I guess the map database is identical so the unit does not need to shut down and re-download satellite data as usual. I don't really know what they changed in the 2014 version, but it seems not much if anything.
