Y-Cable upgrade worth it?

I bought an aftermarket Y-cable on eBay for $20 or so. BMW charge $160+ for theirs. (eeek!)
Has anyone upgraded and noticed a difference in sound quality? My cheap one works fine, other than sounding terrible, which seems common after reading online. Hopefully this hasn't been covered elsewhere. I've only had my 2011 JCW a month and half of that time it's been waiting for a new high pressure fuel pump. =(

Bad luck with HPFP. We had to have our one replaced after 7,500 km!!

Can't comment on the Y-Cable (even though we have one....handy for hire cars), as we use a 16GB USB for music.

Yeah, I used a USB stick when I first bought the car. Sounds heaps better. Even a bluetooth dongle sounds better than plugging the phone straight in with the Y-Cable.
