Would be much cheaper and more cost effective to simply carry a stopwatch around with you then.

For a freebie I think it's a great idea, lovely bit of quirkyness from MINI.

But as a cost option? It's like MINI taking advantage of people's wanting for "silly fun" at a pretty high cost.

I think it's a bit like the "disco light" option on the second gen MINIs, nice to have, but not really worth any extra cash.

Kind of sums it up - If it was free, then yes - But at £110, i'd think twice.

I must admit I still find the mood lighting quite cool

i don't think the price is too bad, an aftermarket version would surely cost several times more

and its great for pub talk, like arguing over the odd bhp here and there or thousandths of a second off 0-60 times

would have loved on on my old mx5, and a chart to compare my time to all the 6 series convertibles / micra CC / every other drop top owner round here to see if they ever had their tops off other than on the 1 sunny day in July

Agree with Paul, its very inkeeping with the MINI cabrio advertising and MINI lifestyle, so its a nice detail, a bit of fun that I think people will like, but wouldn't be paying for something that really doesn't do anything to tell me that I have the roof down lots.

Anyway, surely something like this should also be free as it will help MINI to identify why some people have roof wear faster than others

OUCH! Or maybe the roof warranty will be based on number of hours open, and not how old or how many miles the car has been driven.........

Not here much any more

its a ridiculous idea, not worth the money researching and making and totally useless...however, as a few people have said its a typical MINI thing...which some how makes it worth having!

Agreed, as a no cost option its a great Idea...but at 115 quid its very expensive......and for me to know that I have my roof down at least 85% of the time is a bit pointless......great gimmick....rubbish to pay for....plus.....in 2012/13 if I was looking for a second hand cabrio out of warrenty.....would I be looking for a car with a high or a low roof openometer rating? erm.....now let me think!.......

Will this enhance the value of the car? Is it something that (like the wind deflector) that car would be incomplete without? Or is it simply the daftest marketing gimmick yet?

Would love your views!

Ian

So, did you spec it or not?

Trust me, as I say here: Exclusive: MINI Cooper S Convertible | theSwitchback, it's childish, but actually I found myself watching that more closely than any other dial on the launch, just because I wanted to see how long I could manage.... 100% of the driving time wasn't bad (over 5.5 hours in what was no more really than a days driving, considering the time spent flying etc).
