I was curious how many people without part-exchanges for their dealers to load the cost onto actually got anything for nothing.

(Don't worry, there is a point to my question!)

we got an extra 1k on the trade in price where we chose to spend the money, and free TLC compared to the GF's normal dealership

What happens if they agree a P.ex price several weeks before you start discussing freebies?

Doesn't make any difference. The SIV on the p/x goes up in line with the cost of the 'freebies', so the balance to the customer always remains the same.

Grunt, Grunt,
And there was me sitting smugly thinking I had one over on my dealer after landing my life-savings into their bank account

.....you never get anything for 'free' anyway, well not when there's a car salesman lurking

Sorry for shattering your illusions.

Hey, look on the positive side, at least you're young enough to get over it without too much scarring!

I thought I had made out big getting free floor mats thrown in until the dealer started coaching me on how to rate him when Mini USA called for a review. Come to find out according to a mechanic friend of mine that works for BMW, their bonuses are tied directly to the ratings. Not sure how to feel about this, on the one hand I got the free floor mats and who cares what he gets but then on the other is my opinion that easy to purchase?

Not paricularly to do with freebies but I thought you guys would like to know...

I work for one of the high street banks. One of my staff perks is to be able to buy cars through the bank at a discount (from about 0% to 25% off depending on the car).

For the entire lifespan of the R50, R52 and R53 there was £0 discount available on any MINI's. Our purchase system has just updated for the R56 and is offering £200-£350 discounts depending on which R56 you want!

I admit its not much, but wierd that the new model has a discount.

That's curious - the sales manager I spoke to told me that BMW/MINI staff aren't even getting a discount on the R56!

Looks like my lack of freebies is a fairly common state of affairs!
