Obviously they are going to tell you this, as it is far cheaper for them to paint the damaged bumper than pay for a new one.
If you do decide to accept the car and wait for a replacement bumper, make sure you also get it in writing that you are only accepting the car on the condition that you are 100% satisfied with it after the bumper is replaced. If your dealer refuses to do this, give them the option of providing you with a replacement car until yours is ready or a refund of your deposit so you can order elsewhere.
If you take the option not to drive the car away tomorrow, make sure you instruct them not to register it until it is ready, as this will make it much easier for you to walk away from it if needed.
Sorry for not updating earlier but I've been pre-occuppied with the new car which I did collect on the 1st March.
I thought you'd be interested in the dealer's actions.
Spoke with salesman on the morning and I re-iterated my view on quality of bumper respray and the action to resolve it to my satisfaction. I received a call back a short time later to be told they had a pre-painted DS bumper in stock which they would fit in time for me to collect as agreed?
This only made me more suspicious of the garages actions, having been told bumper was not available for three weeks? Not wishing to be hood winked I told the salesman I would want to see the original removed bumper when I collected my car! Salesman started to back peddle big time but I was insistent.
Five minutes later I get a call from the general manager of the dealership who confesses all. They in their opinion were satisfied with the respray of the bumper decided to swap the bumper with another DS car they had in stock, which they fitted to my car!
