United-Kingdom Shine taken off?

Waiting on 1st March delivery for my DS/B MCS and have been looking forward to seeing car. Dealer rang stating car had been delivered yesterday and albeit not prepared asked if I wanted to pop in and have a look. I'd opted for black lounge leather and since putting pen to paper was questioning if I'd made the right choice?

I was surprised as I only ordered the car 30th January how quick they have turned the order round. What did surprise me and I know it has not been prepared as yet was how grubby the car was both inside and out? Mud all over carpet, grease marks on dash and general grubbiness on bodywork.

Then to cap it all I notice a deep three inch scratch across rear offside bumper! Dealer says they can respray bumber but I don't know if I'm happy with that? I'm thinking I'm paying £22k for a new car and I don't know if I want to be questioned in three years time when I look to replace if I've had rear end damage should the respray be noticed?

Made the right choice with black lounge leather though, it looks the business!

Not the best news Rhi but not the end of the world!

If your dealer noticed the damage when the car was delivered they should already be putting a claim in with MINI to have it rectified. if they didn't, or worse they damaged it, they still have to do the work as you've noticed it before handover day.

Don't worry too much about the whole bumper being resprayed (if they'd done it before you'd noticed you would never have known!) as anyone that doesn't know it has been done will ever be able to tell.

Tell your dealer you are not prepared to let them register the car until you have viewed it repaired and are totally happy with it, and that you want the whole bumper removed from the car and painted, not just a patch-up.

As for the car being dirty, they're all delivered like that. It comes from being built and transported in England in Winter! If they'd cleaned it before you saw it you'd never have known, so don't let that put you off.

If you plan to accept it then make sure you check the colour match carefully, in natural light. As silver is apparently very hard to get "just right".

Proper Silver is, yes, but Dark Silver is apparently quite a 'good' colour!

That's good news then! Apparently the problem with silver is the incredibly small amount of black that has to go in the mix, it's very easy to get it slightly wrong.

Absolutely. Dark Silver, I'm told, is easy to do because it's quite 'dull' compared to most metallics.

Saw car again yesterday minus rear bumper which dealer has taken off for respray. Going to check it out tomorrow afternoon when it's been refitted.

I can't believe the attitude / presumption that I'll have to accept this course of action? I am afterall the one parting with £22k.

If their attitude is that bad I'd swallow my pride, walk away, and go to another dealer. You're the one paying them, they could at least be apologetic and polite.

Mr Unhappy just seen car, which I was due to collect tomorrow. The car looks the business but on close examination the resprayed bumper is not good enough faint ripple effect running through paintwork and imperfection bubble!

The salesman who has been dealing with me had the cheek to tell me it looked good but made his excuses and left prior to me checking car with one of his colleagues.

DO NOT ACCEPT THE CAR UNTIL IT IS PERFECT.

Once in your care - it's YOUR problem (and you will be £22K lighter - sheesh - that's a lotta doe)

I've questioned the dealer this evening to clarify if they can obtain a painted bumper from the factory. Having been told previously they arrive at the dealership primed I have now been told they can be obtained already painted but I would have to wait three weeks.

Having taken my part - ex in late January I have put it to dealer this is not acceptable as the damage caused to the vehicle was outside of my control. The loaned Z4 I have had since losing my part - ex has to go back Saturday.

I've suggested to dealer that I take delivery of vehicle tomorrow on the provision (in writing) that they obtain pre-painted bumper from factory and on its delivery car will go back to dealer for it to be fitted. This met with response I'll have to speak to manager? who wasn't then available. I've told them that if this is not acceptable I'll be asking for my deposit back and buy car from another dealer.

If it has to go this far I'd probably get the new car within the three weeks the dealer is quoting for the delivery of the bumper!

I find out there response tomorrow morning?

Well done, you have taken a logical and sensible approach with the dealer. I hope you resolve the situation to your satisfaction.
