hissing

hi guys.

i'm a techno chimp so i'm just going to throw some stuff into this question to pretend i know what i'm on about.

when i park the car up of a night, there's a hissing noise once the engine has been turned off. it's like the hissing of a tyre going down. is this just the engine or turbo charger cooling down or do i own a dud? it does eventually stop, not sure how long coz i cant be bothered standing out there

totally normal my friend, being technically laymans, I think it is the pressure being released from the turbo - part of the cooling/shut down process - bit like how a fan stays on to cool the engine.

sure there was a similar thread on this, with a good technical explanation. Meanwhile, don't worry!

yes - you and me both. I think us owners should spend more time enjoying our cars and less time on the forum looking for faults...over time we become paranoid and start looking for faults!! having said that, this forum has been brilliant for tips and advice and for generally sharing our experiences....safety in numbers

for the record, i get the same hissing noise after a good run....turbo just letting off steam after i've ragged her
