MINI Cooper S Test Drive - I WANT ONE

I was at MINI United at Zandvoort this weekend and they were offering test drives, so I picked up the keys to a new Mellow Yellow Cooper S.

Leaving the grounds of Zandvoort I wasn't especially overwhelmed as at low speeds it felt just like my Cooper. Then we hit some fast bends, and what can I say but WOW absolutely amazing fun

Then I discovered the Sport button! What a difference it makes - the steering comes alive in your hands and the throttle response is great!

I'm going to finance one if it kills me! Might have to wait till my Cooper is slightly older sadly (only 7 months old!) And now the MCS delivers decent MPG figures, running one as a high mileage driver is now not so such silly money. So, a free test drive - which is destined to cost me about £20 odd K!

Doh! You fell for it.

I would suggest never driving an S until you've got the cash already, otherwise it'll just end in tears.

Now that is niiiice, and Redwood Red Leather Lounge too! Sadly I doubt the finances would work right now, I can't really trade in a new car after 7 months...

...can I?

Yep exactly the same happened to me! Drove an S and just had to have one! My spec has got very big and very expensive, but its what I wanted!

Now I just have to wait for delivery, they told me an estimated delivery date of July 27th, but it passed through 'production control' today so it is being built! I am hoping it may come sooner- I cant imagine it taking a month to build a car and deliver it- any comments/experiences?

I would agree, don't drive one until you have the funds in place, it is a killer going back to your car and it's not an S !

Hope you get it soon,

Ben

you only live once bud!!! Mini would take your car back and sell it in no time - trade in won't be too bad and they sell it as ex-demo!!

I'm only selling as the wife and I are expecting so we need a boring family car with a big boot.

I'll be so sorry to see the back of my MCS, esp as it's barely run in. The next owner will be one lucky ***!!

Geese after hearing all these stories i feel a bit better now

I did a similar thing back in 2002. I bought a renault clio privelege, 1 model down from the clio172 sport. anyway 2 months later i had to bring it in for a warranty claim. the *******s gave me a 172sport as my overnight courtesy car. wow what a car! it was at this point i realised i made the wrong decision, and it was time for me to rectify the mistake and get rid of the privelege.
I was so close to upgrading to the 172sport, but then i thought... i might as well check out some other cars in this category. I test drove the MCS, Focus ST & a Peugeot 206gti. I then made my final decision - i bought a MCS

Here i am now waiting for my R56...

I probably drove the same car as you Marcus

I was very impressed with the 'S I have to say... the only thing I found it lacking in was noise, so best spec the Works 192 kit aswell

It was great for poppet aswell, he was behind me in a CooperD, and finally got to here a new 'S bouncing off the rev limiter

Matthew (Bebby the MOD) drove the Pepper white Cooper D and he is buying one! MINI "free" test drives are a bad idea!
