Windscreen Wipers

I have only recently got an MCS, and yesterday was driving in heavy rain with the wipers running at normal speed. I stopped at traffic lights and the wiper speed changed to intermittent, when I moved forward again the wipers resumed normal speed. Is this standard on all MCS's

Hi there

Its one of the options you can have set by your dealer. Others include automatic locking of the car when you reach 10mph and convenient opening of windows/sunroof when you unlock the car.

You set these yourself, not by the dealer now. The wiper speed change is standard now too.

the wiper feature is standard - standard across all modern BMW cars. It's smart behaviour.

If you have it on fast wipe, when you halt it will go to normal wipe, and as you say, normal wipe goes to intermittent on stopping - it saves energy, rubber wear and minimises any horrible noises when the screen is not wet enough for a smooth wipe.

Thanks Drewuk.

I did not specifically order it or the automatic locking of the car, and the dealer did not mention it. But the car also automatically locks once the car starts moving forward at approx' 1 mph.

I am not complaining though !

How can we set these ourselves Paul? does it depend on model/year?

Cheers

Standard feature of the R56. Settings can be adjusted using the onboard computer. For guidance see the handy instructions in the manual

As for R53, etc. Go see your friendly neighbourhood dealer, who i'm sure will change any settings for a suitable price.

Also for R50, which is what Drewuk owns. (Basically for 1st gen, dealer job, 2nd gen, DIY).
