Creaking noise from suspension?

Hi,

I occassionally notice a strange noise which appears to come from behind me when driving. It is like a creaking from the suspension. It usually happens shortly after I have been over a bump in the road. It sounds like the suspension adjusting itself, almost as though it is resetting itself after the bump. It is a very deliberate sound, as though it is meant to happen and it always lasts the same amount of time and makes exactly the same noise. I have had my brand new car for a month and it has occasionally made this noise from the very beginning. Is this a feature of the new Cooper S or a fault?

I have noticed a creaking when you jack up one side of the car - it comes from the back suspension and may be the same sound. I also get this sound from my '02 MCS which as an aftermarket thicker sway bar - the sound comes when the bushings need greasing. I have not worried about the sound from my 07 because it only happens in extreme situations when one side is lifted much higher than the other. I would ask your dealer if it happens in normal driving.

No creaks from mine, so definitely not a feature. I have had that in older cars that needed grease in the bushings like Keith says.

If the noise stops when it's raining, then you know the bushes need lubricating!

Use to get the same problem with the front suspension on my Type-R. The Dealer tried everything to cure it with no success, eventually it cured itself !!!

My Cooper S is 7 months old and has just started with this annoying "creak noise" as well as several other noises not very happy with the dealership have had the car in twice but they state cant find anything obvious. Love my car but the noises are spoiling the fun. Expect better better from BMW
