Question Sports suspension required on a MCS, or is it good enough?

A pretty self explanatory topic really. I am looking at my spec and thinking perhaps I should add SS

So;
Does it lower the car?
Is it majorly harsh?
Is it required at all on a S which I presume will have a decent suspension setup anyway?

iirc - you get it by default with the chilli pack - that said - it is fine - nice and sporty for spirited driving but nowhere near as harsh as the R53. Combination of greater travel distance in the damper and latest generation run-flat tyres that ride much better now

That's what I initially thought, however, if you select the chili pack on the config there is no mention of the SS - then when you get to the options screen the box for S is unchecked. To make things even more complicated when you do check the box the price doesn't move!

So i'm not sure if it's included or not! I don't want to miss out on an essential.

Sports suspension is not now part of the Chili pack but is a free option if you get the Chili pack.
What that means is that asking for the Chili pack does not automatically get you the sports suspension, but you can get it as a free addition.
I would say go for it if you do spirited driving as it is less harsh than the R53 SS+ & makes the cornering more secure.

Thanks, just rang my dealer and that is the case. That's another option ticked then!

Are you sticking with 17" wheels or going for 18" wheels ??

...might be worth checking with people with 18" wheels and sports suspension if you are upgrading.

I was told if you get 17" wheels you should not get SS, though I ignored that and when for SS anyway and am quite happy with it, though I do prefer a "sporty" setup with minimal body roll.. with 18" wheels it maybe be too hard. Saying that I would still spec SS...

I have SS and 18's and it seems fine to me....a lot more forgiving than the JCW suspension and 17's I had on the last one...

Whether you go for SS really depends on what sort of drive you require/are used to. Why not bring a car with SS and a car without SS for a test drive....

Personally I decided not to go for the SS this time round and am very happy with my choice and would'nt change back - the car still handles brilliantly on 17"s and is less harsh across the badly surfaced roads where I live..

If you get the ss and run 18" and find it a little too harsh - you could always change to regular tyres. - Was night and day in the R53 and will do a very good job of takiing any edge of sharp bumps etc in the R56 too.

When I ordered my MCS in June 07, it had the Chili Pack with 17" wheels. I did not order SS as I thought it would make the suspension too hard in conjunction with the run flat tyres.

Initially I found the rear suspension tended to roll, so was considering changing the rear roll bars to the SS version. The cars now done 2.5K miles and there is no roll.

I presume this is due to the suspension 'bedding in', and I am very satisfied with the ride.

From what I understand SS increases the thickness of the rear roll bars fractionally, and that is the only difference.

The MCS suspension is by nature hard as it's a Sport Model. If you were going to use the MCS in motor competitions then SS might be advantageous, otherwise don't bother.
