| 220bhp for £400??? Afternoon guys, Been doing to digging today as i'm getting excited about my new Cooper S arriving in a few weeks..... How legitimate does this all sound??? How can these claims be true??? Go to the mini -> cooper s..... P-Torque ECU Performance Software Specialists The also say they can give you 230bhp with the remap and Milltek exhaust system...!!! That would be like S*** off a shovel!!! |

| classic newbie mistakes. Don;t ever assume it works that three 5bhp mods will gice you an extra 15bhp. in all honesty i struggle to see how P torque consistently seem to be offering the highest figures compared to others. Also question why BMW to get 210 out of the R56 do a lot of engine mods, not just a simple remap. Up to you, remember, if you give me a standard escort RS turbo with 136bhp, i'll give you 200bhp from it for 2 quid. But it will last all of 10 minutes use. Theres a moral there and remember its not all about the peak figures. |

| Ant you are true in what you say..... However I have had mini's before and do understand a relative part of the modding game.... The 15BHP wasn't to be from one part, lohen state... "The Alta air intake system for the Gen2 Cooper S follows on from the strong performance gains engineered from their Gen1 Cooper S system. Using a high flow foam filter element with an increased surface area improves performance and response of the Gen2 Cooper S engine, with a proven 10bhp and 10ft-lbs of torque increase. This system includes a silicone intake hose with smooth internals to ensure air-flow isn't disrupted. Also, a lightweight aluminium shroud to secure the filter element in place. This intake system is used on our Gen2 Cooper S demo car and has been tested to ensure its compatibility within the UK. Due to differences in UK and US MINIs, we provide an adaptor to suit UK MINIs where US MINIs have a MAF sensor, this is only available through Lohen. The silicone intake hose is available in glossy red or black, the foam filter element is now only available in black." This seems to be good bang for buck imo... However I am new at this S modding game, only had coopers before. |

| Don't buy into the marketing claims... Lohen say 10 bhp right? Well, Alta says 10whp! So who is right? Both, none? Adding an intake system probably won't get you what they claim. As for the remaps? Well, they do work but if you are worried about doing that to a new car perhaps you should wait until your warranty is up before you start modding at all. It can be a slippery slope. |

| All IMO of course... 1. Too small a gain (if any) to feel. 2. Worthless, some people have posted on NAM that the stock inter cooler is actually pretty good and they doubt gains from after market versions, unless your running high boost. 3. I'd be cautious of this too. It is basically an air filter and silicon pipe, not sure its worth the money. Also I have run an open filter on my S with the hood scoop open and yes it sounds great, but it actually drives better with the stock filter in the box (I have JCW kit). The car 'recovers' from gear changes much quicker and has more low down torque. Real power gains can be had by replacing the cat and mapping. Take a look around the R56 section on MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring theres more people doing engine mods there. |

| There have been two members who have had the p-torque map on their cars. On standard cars p-torque has got 210-215bhp. I cant see how 235-240bhp is out of the question with a full turbo back Milltek exhaust and Forge intercooler. There claims are hardly out of this world, as Hamann and AC Schnitzer are selling 230bhp conversions and these are done only with an up-rated intercooler and cat back systems. | 235-240 now, as i said i'm not saying they are out of this world. I am saying should you be stressing an already wellworked 1.6 even further. Lets remember the R56 1.6 Turbo is nothing like the old R53. The R53 was powerful but with a really badly designed engine. Where as the the 1.6 turbo is a well built and designed engine which is closer to its limits than the R53 ever was. So to expect tot get 235 to 240 out of it with just a remap is ludicrous. Longevity is the name of the game and as we knwo from Peugeot Sports testing in the past Heat is the enemy of this engine. Turn the boost up and the heat troubles the car. |

| I would agree with DaFlake, it would make sense to wait until the warrany period is over before modding the car. any problems and BMW will wash their hands of your car,,,,,,,,,,,,and rightly so. |

| They are not getting 235 to 240 just out of a remap they are upgrading intercooler and giving you a hi flow cat to get these figures. Cars with these mods without a remap are seeing 210 on dynos, but i agree that heat is this engines worst trait. I mean a stock car can fry eggs on its bonnet after a shortish run! | There are a few products on the market now to try and combat this; I know m7 have a improved heat shield M7: Vision. Passion. Drive. Also Way Motor Works have a heat shield as well for the turbo Way Motor Works*::*07- Cooper & S (R56)*::*WMW Turbo Heat Shield Maybe they might help... worth a try!
