OK, here is the update:

My MCS has gone back to the dealer for the 3rd fix, as the very last chance getting this sort once for all or burn and crash. As they usually do, lent me a car while is fixing, surprising they got me a idenitical car except the extra options that I paid for. It turned out the loan car is totally silience with no rattle.

Buttttt..... Originally, the service manager said it would only take a couple of days and ooops, it took 2 weeks and he rang today and said it has been fixed by a external BMW guys (not work at the dealer). And told me it was a doggy seal with the windscreen and rattle connected to all the parts from the bottom of the engine. Apart silicon gel on the seal sorted the problem. I am about to pick up the fixed car tomorrow night after work, let's see how this turn out this round.

Sorry, coming to this thread a little late. I've been having similar problems with my dash and raised a thread here to discuss it.

I'm intrigued you mention that the windscreen seal maybe the problem, as someone in the thread I started has also suggested getting the windscreen removed and resealed. I'm on the verge of booking my car in to do exactly that, so I'm keen to know how you got on pattop.

Although (fingers crossed) both our problems are related to windscreen seals, the dashboards do seem quite rattle prone. I only live a couple of miles from Magna's Intier Automotive Interiors facility in Redditch where all Mini dashboards are made. Sometimes I feel like popping in and having a moan!

I've been hassled with dashboard noise since within a month of taken delivery of my new mini in Jan 09.

Initial the rattle was coming from the left centre, this resulted in having the dashboard top replaced. This resolved the problem for a while.

The problem returned, this resulted in it going back in and having the dashboard top refitted.

The next problem was a very annoying vibration coming from the depths of the dashboard. The vibration seemed to happen between 1,500 and 2,500 revs, but particularly at 1,800 revs. After BMW doing an investigation it apparently turned out to be the heater matrix. Its now only just been replaced, which did require a complete dashboard removal. It seems to be ok, but I hope it doesn't cause more problems in the future.

I am disappointed that my mini has had these problems, it has spoilt the enjoyment of having my first new car. I also have a 13 year old Audi Cabriolet, and it’s quiet as a mouse.

Hello there, I've got a 2007 CooperD and the rattles are so terrible, especially whe the engine revs around 3000 rpm, I'm really thinking to buy another more serious car because of this.
I winded up here looking for some DYI guide on how to add paddings and possibly where...ideas anyone?
cheers,

Mini Rattle

Mine is already 15 days in the dealer and trying to find from where the rattle is coming from.
Initially they thought it was from the dash but it seams to come from another position.
My MCS is 2012 model and this sound is temperature related as I can understand as well as it is appeared only in rough road around 2000 rpm.

h**p://youtu.be/Bujt2FZwkgQ ( Edit in Proceed now)

Any ideas??
I Hate to dismantle new car for this..

Does this occur only over bumps? Kind of hard to tell from the video, but is it a metallic noise?

Mine have rattles from dash ...but hardly notice them when i'm playing music.

When it was still new, there was a rattle from the inside door handle coming when I play music.

I decide to fix it myself ...

Dealer people hardly know how to fix these kind of things ...

They will likely make it worse ...

and you will have to keep going back and forth ...

Initially they thought is the traditionally noise from the dash board, but my Mini is the latest one and the problem has been fixed from the factory so we are still investigating from where this noise coming from.

Cant really say if its a metallic noise or not, it sound more like plastic but coming from deep inside of the dashboard center toward to the drivers side, and it is only occurs in specific RPM around 2000 and only in rough road.
Therefore, it was difficult to prove to the dealer as well, whenever we went for a test we couldn't hear it, until now which i found the way how to make it appeared intentionally.

It was there from day one but I never thought it is something serious.

Still waiting the results..

For those that are interesting for the rattles in general and for mine specifically, finally today we found out that this strange sound/vibration in coming for the Power Steering!

They put a piece of elastic material in the steering column and the sound disappeared.
The sound it was from out side but thru the column it was coming internally..

They order the spare in Germany and we expecting it receive it.
I hope to be the one and to finish the sorry soon,,,Somehow i lost my trust with this this story!

Hi

Dear Friends,,

Finally the problem solved..It was nothing from the inside since my Mini is the latest generation.

The rattle was coming from the power steering and through the column of the steering wheel was passing into the dashboard.

I wouldn't suspect this noise is coming from the power steering, so i cannot blame the dealer!

Anyway,,, it is disappointment for a new car,, but i had no other choice but trying to find the problem,, whatever it takes.
