Talking Just bought an MCS!

Just put a deposit down on a '57 Cooper S Chili Pack, climate, stop/start and all that very happy and was sold after the test drive took me down a twisty back road in Wiltshire. I was hooked!

I would like to know if anybody recommends must dos/must haves and must NOTs in terms of getting the best ownership experience as I can. For example, are there any cheap or free methods to enhance my experience such as changing the air filter, using certain engine oils etc? That kind of stuff...

All advice and banter greatly appreciated. Looking forward to being part of the Mini clan!

Hi
Best advice? Check your oil on a weekly basis. The sump capacity is small. It is normal to use 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles. Not many people drive a 1000 miles a week but I have found different types of driving varies the amount of oil used. A check once a week takes a couple of minutes but can save you from engine problems in the future. Enjoy.

Hi ya

and welcome sounds like you have the bug :-) and congrats on the new purchase you are going to love it

Pritty much as Dermottdog says. And i would do oil and filter every 6000 to 8000 miles bmw service intervals are to far apart
I would also advise using a good injector cleaner like BG44k on it and also do a seafoam treatment on it twice a year

Maintenance :: How-To do Seafoam Treatment R55/R56 - North American Motoring

These engine suffer from carbon build up in the inlet due to the crank case ventilation system, so seafoam and injector cleaner will help you minimize the problem
There are lots of tips and advise in th FAQ and diy section very good reading and worth while

Here's a pic. It's from the traders website, for some reason I can't post the URL to the site, otherwise you'd be able to access the site and see all the pics etc.

Black the Engine Breather

One of the best things you can do is block off the top rear engine breather pipe using blanks purchased from Peugot. This reduces carbon fouling of your inlet valves. Do a search for "super knock".

My MCS suffered from "super knock" utill I did the MOD .. I used water to remove the carbon off the inlet valves instead of SEAFOAM & its a lot cheaper..

Get rid of runflat tyres, they suck & make the ride harsh.

Apparently you need to check the oil regular. My car does not use a drop between servicings which is what all the engines should be like.

Good luck with your MCS
