Cooling fan isues

Hi all, Hope you all had a merry Xmas and are looking forward to a trouble free New Year.

I know it's an old topic but ........

After replacing the entire fan unit the car went in for the recall re some pump !

All was well , it was summer with no need for heating etc.
As soon as the colder weather returned , the fan problem came back if I had the heating on even on short journeys and would stay on for 15 minutes after stopping and would generally go back on when restarting .
Heater is now no longer as hot ( perhaps good reason for recall ! ) and I have just learned to live with this idiosynchrisy.

Cold heater is usually due to an airlock in the system preventing proper circulation of hot coolant through the heater matrix, the fan cutting in also suggests the fan is working hard trying to keep the engine temperature down due to a circulation problem like an airlock. Bleeding the cooling system often takes time and patience so many garages/mechanics tend to rush the job and don't eliminate all the air first time.

We have just had the same problem on our R55 S, the fan would even come as soon as the engine was started in the morning.
The fault turned out to be a faulty thermostat.
