MCS 2007 coolant help please.

Hi everyone.
Yesterday while on a drive , one of the coolant hoses failed and dumped water and coolant everywhere. The car was recovered and is now at home.
Tomorrow I will try and get a new hose , refill and hope all is ok.

Is there anything when refilling to be careful of? Any hints and tips?

Where is the bleed valve for the cooling system?

You help would be most appreciated.

Regards
Neil

Most advice on the forum(s) for Gen 2 seems to be :-

1. drain by separating the hoses under the rad.
2. turn the ignition switch on but not with the engine running.
3. set cabin heater to high temp + low fan speed.
4. carefully pour 50% diluted (G48 for me) blue coolant slowly, squeezing any soft hose parts to release trapped air. System volume is 6 litres
5. when 'max' level is reached screw down the coolant cap + start up.
6. allow to warm up + then let it cool + top up as necessary.
7. bleed with warm engine off; a long screwdriver to the bleed screw on the top of the thermostat (needs looking for!) - careful! max 3 turns or you lose the screw - till escaping air is replaced by coolant. (OR leave it open while filling, but monitor it?)
8. I found I needed to carry diluted coolant to add over the next couple of days till it all settles. An extra bleed is a useful precaution. I topped up first thing in the morning. if possible keep a wary eye on engine temps at all times - I use Android/Torque app.
9. my Gen2 Haynes manual mentions venting the turbo pump by running the engine for 12min but as far as I can see this'll happen anyway + it isn't mentioned on any forum post I've seen...but could be useful as the extra bleed?

Hopefully others will add more info + tips they've found useful. MINIs are prone to airlocks so IMO it has to be done with care and at your own risk as a result of any advice offered...but it's not a 'black art' IMO, nor a 'lifetime fill'
Hope this helps. Remember it's for Gen2 BTW.

Hi.
Thanks for the reply.

Strange things afoot. Have replaced hose. Done as per what people say but now the engine runs but the heater inside is blowing continuous cold air.

Could this mean air block or something worse.

Regards
Neil
