nothing covering the steering wheel stick?

Down at the R56 pedals, behind the speedo pedal (i hope thats what its called), runs the steering wheel stick (i hope thats what its called too). Right now as i see it its bare and you can see the metallic stick. Is that how its supposed to be or is it cover by some fabric/plastic? I think it was covered with something but after i took it from the mechanic and looked at it, it seemed strange that it was bare with nothing covering it!

Here it is, does this look normal?

Yes its the steering column inner, and accelerator pedal, never heard it called a stick before, thats reserved for the gear stick.
You can see it and it bare and sometimes people with big feet will say they can feel it rubbing on their shoe as it turns when theyre driving, its how its suppose to be.

You shouldnt be looking under there then you wouldnt know

Oh when you get into the car and you open the flappy thing, thats the door.
