A very good very efficient radiator will be hot at the top and cool at the bottom, it shows its taking away the heat properly?

Had a finding today. Took for 5 mile drive, pull in drive, temp at 107c, checked bottom hose, cold, shut engine off and electric pump kicked in and after only a few moments the radiator and bottom hose start to warm up and then get hot. So coolant is moving around the system but not until engine shut down.

If your thermostat is ok you either have an airlock or your waterpump is shot or fanbelt slipping badly.
Driving normally your engine temp should sit around 90 to 95 but will rise in queuing traffic etc, if its reaching 105 whilst driving along you have a problem also if its reaching 105 & the radiator is cold then the coolant isnt circulating. You haven't got an electric pump the noise you are hearing is the fan

If you changed the thermostat (and not just the housing), then the only thing left is the water pump.

Hi jackhd, i have read though your problem and I am a mini mechanic in the main dealer, I would recommend clearing the fault memory in the car, if a fault is stored for the map-thermostat it will go into a safe code making the fan to run a lot. Clear fault memory and re-test, let me know how you get on.
