First Mini

Hi all new user here,

i am looking to buy my first mini cooper s in the next couple of months, i am looking at the mini cooper s, i have around 8000 ($10000,$11000)

i am wanting a R56 model and would like some extras such as chilli pack, panoramic roof and heated seats

any advice on what millage and age i should be looking at?

and is their anything i should be looking out for in a 30,000mile car?

Check the oil line going into the top of the turbo. They tend to start leaking around that mileage. The turbo will look wet in that area and it may even drip on the ground. It's just a poor design (o-ring gets cooked by the heat from the turbo). Probably a US$400-500 job.

If the car has a rough idle when cold, but is OK when it warms up, you probably need to have the back of the intake valves cleaned (common problem with direct injection engines). US$400-750.

Brakes should have been done by 30K.

if you are looking at a car with a manual transmission, check the clutch. If you hear a brief squeal in sport mode when you let out the clutch, it's worn down to the rivets. Dealer wants US$4K for replacement. Indy shops are about half that.

Not a cheap car to own (BMW).
