Hi, I get a 2009 Mini cooper s and it has 70000 miles on it. Recently I find that the speed displayed on the Tachometer (and the large meter in the middle) is a little bit higher than the actual speed. for example, the actual speed is 65mph and the tachometer will show 69mph. anyone know what's wrong with my Cooper S? So much thanks!

thanks so much dude, I‘m so new to mini and I used to have a scion tc and the speedo of that is the actual speed. at first I thought the speed sensor of my mini is broken. Could you please tell me if the speed displayed on the speedo is a little bit higher than the actual, would that cause the miles displayed on odometer differs from the actual one?

Have you got the MINI recommended tyre sizes fitted?
Differing tyre profiles outside the recommended ones will alter the wheel revolutions per mile and thus affect the speedo reading which would then have to be recalibrated by a specialist to work correctly.

But speedos as standard always have a certain error anyway and usually its faster than you are actually going, you will thank it when you pass a missed speed camera though ;)

BMW actually set the speedo to overread by a fixed amount. If you get into the coding of the car's ECU, I think you can change it but that is serious stuff - like thousands-serious if you fry the ECU.

The odometer does not get the same 'fiddle factor' added so that is still reasonably accurate, assuming the tyres are a standard size. But bear in mind that there is a 2% difference in size between the largest and smallest standard tyres for a Mini, so don't ask is the odometer accurate to 0.1%, 'cos it ain't.
