do I need to change VVT cogs with timing chain

My son has just bought a MCS with no head fitted. Its a long story but the head has just had a full rebuild but just not fitted.

As a precautionary job we are going to change the timing chain and tensioner. On ordering the parts we are getting conflicting information, some parts places want to sell us the replacement VVT cogs as well as the chain kit. Where as a local BMW Mini parts dept will only do the tensioner and associated bolts and seals for only £76.

considering there is nothing wrong with the chain and this is just an easy job to do while the head is off, do we need to change the VVT cogs? difference is about £300

It might be worth noting that the car maybe a John Cooper Works it certainly has JCW parts on it but we are not sure yet if it was a factory car or had the parts fitted at the dealer when bought
