Isn't in an N14 engine in a 60 reg.

N18's began in April 2010 - my daughter has one of the first, built on 14 April 2010 and ours was built in September. We have not had any issues with either of the N18 engines, both of which are at around 60k kilometers. I would be interested to hear if anyone has experienced timing chain or tensioner issues with the N18.

Based on my last N14, anything between 5 and 12 hundred quid.
Never heard of N18 suffering from the same ailments as the N14 so fingers crossed . My has 23k on the clock. If it ain't broke , don't fix it !
It is a tricky job , needs a good mechanic .

Seems to be a noise at cold startup. Goes away when warm runs nice. But have had code p0012 come up twice lately. Wonder if i could just change the tensioner?

I would be inclined to have a look at the solenoid valves first (see attachment). Eliminate all the simple stuff before you go full house and replace the timing chain tensioner.

It's a Adobe Acrobat document, not an image. You need to have a PDF viewer, normally 'Acrobat Reader', installed on your device. You clearly haven't. The link works perfectly.

I have a 2010 April N18 and I have recently had to have the timing chain and guides etc replaced. I was originally quoted 830 from BMW Gatwick but after stating this is my 3rd Mini with timing chain issues they gave me a 50% discount on labour and the parts free. If you don't ask you don't get, but what added weight to my claim was that my car has had every bit of work at a BMW stealers.

I contacted other independent Mini specialists prior to getting the offer from BMW and I got quotes from 350 to 700 for timing chain and oil. Extremely varied!!!!

If the N18 has the same issues as the N14 , I am gutted ! Please somebody tell me it doesn't !
If it does , then I'm getting rid of my 2013 Cooper S and going for something reliable like a VW .

*** the emissions, but could not go through timing chain issues again !
