16" wheels - what runflat tyres?

If you have an R56 with 16" wheels, what runflat tyres does it have?

I have read that the new generation runflats are better, what are your thoughts?

You may find that R56 tyres are presently unobtainable. This seems to be the situation with the Dunlop SP Sport 01 in 205/45R17 for my R56 MCS.

Have you had a puncture? Are people still refusing to repair runflats?

I have not had a puncture but I asked my local tyre repairer if he will repair runflats and he said not.

I would like to have a spare tyre on a spare rim in my garage just in case and asked about the availability of the tyres. This is how I discovered they are presently un available. Hopefully this will change fairly quickly..

I hope so Martin.

This is one reason I have ordered the space saver spare for my Cooper.

If you need a new tyre, I would like the option of ordering one on line and be able to wait a few days. Black Circles have a few 16" ones fitted for about £100, seems cheaper than general prices.

Also, if I opt for going non-runflat I'll have a spare tyre ready and waiting.

Your idea of having a spare standing by is a good one. To save money, you could just keep a tyre. If you need it just drive on your runflat to a tyre fitter who may well swap it over "for cash"

run flats, what crap

The early mini coopers (2003-) were not designed suspension wise, for run flat tyres, the ride is too hard and destroy's the macpherson strut rubber mounts, never had that before in all my years of motoring (40 years).

So its high performance conventionaltyres for me

My Cooper came with Goodyear Excellences, had them removed for delivery, wheels now have Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 -winter tires, non run flats.

Ill get ordinary tires for summer too, thinking of selling the run flats...

Note, that MINI dealers may offer you less as a trade in if you have non-runflat tyres

I guess you never owned a VW (without runflats).

Here in the U.S., my R56 MC with the 16" bridge spoke wheels came with ContiProContact SSR run flats. I also have a spare (being an MC), so at the moment am running on 15" wheels with non-run-flat snow tires.

our new Clubman has Goodyear Excellence Run On Flat tyres. It has now clocked up 700 miles in under 2 weeks, and the only niggle i have is that they are a little noisier than normal.
On a good surface, like a newish dual carriageway, the difference is hardly noticeable, but on well worn road that is in need of resurfacing, sometimes the noise is unbearable!!
what suprised me was that they are not over noisey on concrete roads.
there are certainly no problems with the grip though, as it sticks to the road like the proverbial!!!

BTW, thes tyres only cost £60 each from the wholesaler, but retailers are charging as much as £140 per unit. talk about extortion.

Clubbin' it and Lovin' it
