Unhappy ABS Control Unit Failure

Hi everyone,

I collected my new 07 Cooper last Friday (it had been traded in by a lady who didn't want it anymore, but it had only done 1k) , but this morning driving to work the ABS light and some other warning lights started flashing! I rang my local dealer who advised me to call out MINI Emergency Service in case it wasn't safe to drive.

To cut a long story short, the ABS Control Unit has failed and I've now got a hire car until they can find a replacement part.

How unlucky am I?!! Must be the shortest MINI adventure ever!!

I'd be a bit concerned. A "lady who didn't want it" traded it in after only 1k would, for me, start the alarm bells ringing in the distance. This problem would make them clatter loudly in my ears.

Still, as long as you've got a hire car and things are all being sorted to your satisfaction, then that's the main thing. Sure it wont take long and will be back good as new soon.

Might be worth writing to the old lady that did not want the car, find out if that was real reason or if there are other issues.

I know what you're saying, and the thought did cross my mind. However, I have checked with the dealer I bought it from and the original dealer and the car has not been back for any work whatsoever, so I suspect I've just been unlucky! I did ring the dealership I bought it from yesterday and spoke to the manager and asked the question again, and I was told categorically that it had never had any problems before...

Do you think it's still worth trying to get into contact with the original owner?

I do yes. Can't do any harm, it's not wrong to seek assurances, even if it allays any doubt.
