Mine was £16.5k - but spent another £2.5k on it since with JCW bodykits and bits and pieces. For the initial purchase price I got chilli pack, webspokes, chrome int & ext, spot lamps, metallic paint, chrome wing mirrors, piano black interior and a few other bits and bobs. But it certainly doesn't take long to add to the basic price when your adding on £1800 worth of chilli pack etc. then adding the VAT on to everything........ even the following 'must haves' add near enough £650.00 on to the cost new Delivery cost £342.00 Road Fund Licence £100.00 First registration fee £38.00 TLC £150.00 IMO - spec the car to how you want & with what you want, because if you don't you'll regret it later on.

When I ordered my original Cooper it came to £13,500. I then added bits as I went along (leather / chrome line interior and other bits and bobs). I thought I would keep it for at least 6 years but, as is nearly always the way, it got traded for a nicer MINI 2 1/2 years later I knew that the basic Pepper Pack and air con would maintain some of their value, but I was really shocked how nothing else held any value what so ever! Even a full leather interior (£900 ish at the time), BMW cat 1 alarm (£200), parking sensors (£250 ish) added absolutely nothing to the trade in value I am so glad I spent relatively little on other options, otherwise the losses would have been eye watering ![]() A large amount of BMW's profit margin is based on customers speccing all sorts of frivolous accessories. It's the main reason why BMW arrange their customer ordering and manufacturing system so that you can keeping ordering more and more extras right up until the last minute! So, to limit the damage, order one of the major packs (Pepper / Chilli), any additional extras that you view as absolutely essential (in my case that would be leather) and STOP THERE. If you are ready want to spend £17,500, as KenL has already said, consider an S instead. The S will maintain a great deal more at trade in time than a Cooper with the equivalent new value of options ![]() Tigger. ![]() May '04 - Feb '07 R50, Feb '07 - May '10 R53. Enjoyed our time with MINI's, but ran out of space! Now Focus RS & Land Rover powered...

I completely agree with what you say Tigger, but in my case my MINI was already in stock at the dealers, already specced up etc. but if I had had a Cooper S I would hae specced near enough the same options and added the bodykit plus other JCW goodies too, but my insurance was a main reason why I didn't go for the S. My insurance now (with a Cooper with goodies and bodykit) is alot less than what the same in an S would have been. I know my trade in value in five years won't be as much, but cars are like everything else...... they're the next best thing to sliced bread when you buy them, but when you trade them in its a different story..........
