DIY New engine needed. Any advice please ?

Hi all. After the engine fault light came on and my mini copper ( 07 reg) started behaving like a shaky old man unable to crawl up a hill, I have found out that the valves have broken apart in my engine. Mini said thay have seen the fault several times and when they repair the issue they often end up just replacing the engine. I am gutted and simply cant afford the £5000 quote ( including fitting) for a new engine ! I need to find a good second hand engine but am so wary of the cowboys out there and have already read some scary stories about some companies such as 'ideal engines' etc. I was also quoted £3000 for a re-conditioned engine ( including fitting). Could anyone please recommend someone who they would trust to buy a second hand engine from ? I'd really appreciate any recommendations. I only bought the car 15 months ago and chose it because I thought it would be really reliable and I've never pushed it hard !Thank you

could always try and get one out of a wrecked MINI... might be hard to do and would be risky too.

Thanks for the tips guys. It didn't occurr to me to complain to mini as I just assumed they wouldn't be interested. It would obviously be wonderful if they really valued their customers and the reputation of their brand but I can't imagine that's going to be the case !

I suppose if you don't ask then you don't get, obviously you haven't owned the mini from new so i don't know if they take this into account. Really feel for you man! i would be gutted to be told that! don't know what you paid for her but i bet it wasn't cheap then to be told just 15 months later the engine is shot! its money you will never get back! I wish you the best of luck mate.
