just to let you peeps know, got my mini fixed, the rattle was from the friction wheel that drives the water pump.

Annoying genuine BMW approved fuel tank vent valve 'tapping'...

I have a 2010 R56 with 10K miles on it and it makes a racket like rattling a bucket of spanners on cold start up. Quitens down OK once warm. Its always done this.

The dealer advises me its quite normal and is the fuel tank vent valve. To demonstrate, he unplugged the tank source pipe to said valve and the noise magically stopped, reconnected it and away it started again, so I dont think Im being fed bull sh*t.

Anyone else have this?

And am I the only one who thinks this is unacceptable in a new car?

I have a 2008 Cooper and the friction wheel started to rattle. I have had a new (genuine) part fitted (along with water pump, drive belt and tensioner) but the new friction wheel still rattles - just like the old one. I am at the end of my tether - it has been in my local garage for 2 weeks and they cannot find the problem. Everything works fine, the engine doesn't overheat, so the water pump is working and there are no warnings. Please, please can anyone suggest anything
