MPG Question

Hi

I'm interested in getting a MINI Cooper or a MINI One but I've got a few questions to ask regarding performance first.

1) What is the difference between a ONE and a Cooper?
2) What model has the best MPG (I drive 20 mile round trip to and from work with stop starting and a average speed of around 35MPH)
3) Which one has the cheaper tax?
4) Would you suggest a 1.4 or a 1.6. I don't want a diesel.
5) Are there any specific models that are better then others. IE, I've seen that has interior 'atmosphere lights'?

I've once had a '03 Cooper S but they're too expensive to run for my liking and now looking for something more economical.

Many Thanks
Abbie

In gentle, low speed use, I don't think there is a significant difference between a One and a Cooper for economy. The One is effectively the same engine as the Cooper but with its top end power limited - as you aren't going to get near that range around tow, I would expect them to be the same.

But I haven't owned both a One and a Cooper, so I can't say for definite.

What does make a significant difference is whether it is a 1st or 2nd generation car, with the 2nd generation ones being significantly more economical. The changeover was in 2006 (except for convertibles). They will probably have lower tax for the same reason.
