advice on 2nd hand mini

hi all,
first time user here? Would like your advice on purchasing a mini cooper r56 2007-2008 model, at best doing under 100,000km otherwise under 150,000km.
looking at buy my first car- parents are paying half. family has a bmer and british cars so aware of the steep servicing price, father is a car enthusiast.

I have my eye on one currently
2007 r56, 96 000km asking price of $16,500

I have no idea about pricing in your area but I would be sure to have someone experienced with Mini's to give it a thorough going over before purchasing. Here we can have that done for around $100.00 and when I've bought used 'specialty' type cars I felt it was worth it.

United-Kingdom advice on mini purchase

Hi,
Given the trouble we have had with my daughters Mini I would not but one!
Timing chain rattling at 43K, mini not interested. Jumped a tooth at 49K so replace chain, guides, sprockets & tensioner. Water leak at 50K -coolant housing, Turbo packed in and snapped its shaft at 51K due to a know oil feed problem-replace turbo, oil feed pipe etc.
All in all cost a fortune to keep on the road and Mini seem aware of all these problems but will not help!
avoid and find another make!

thanks jskel!
thats so unlucky, very surprised that mini did not do anything at 43k
Is it possible that it was just bad luck? surely not all mini's that age would cause that much trouble!
