First post! I'm looking to purchase a 2007 Mini Cooper Hatchback with an automatic transmission. It's for roughly $7k and comes with the cold weather and sport package. I like the car a lot, but I want to make sure I cover my bases before purchasing. I will be having a mechanic check the car out before purchasing.
Here are a few topics that I have come across, but would love your feedback if I'm missing something.
Auto Transmission - shouldn't be an issue because it's not a CVT (only first gens)
Fuel Pump - This appears to be more of an S issue, rather than a base issue. jalopnik.com/5673922/mini-owners-with-broken-fuel-pumps-ask-wheres-our-recall
Timing chain - The seller mentioned he got the 100k service done recently (even though the car is at 83k miles), so this MIGHT be covered? He doesn't have any service documentation, but mentioned getting the service at the dealer. Perhaps I could push to get the details from the dealer. My mechanic did mention that he could listen to the engine identify a timing chain issue, but that doesn't sound preventative. Any recommendations here? I will look at the timing chain thread for updates.
Thermostat Housing - Looks like I could maybe do this myself with a bit of work. youtube.com/watch?v=ek4YJUvZTPc
Any other areas worth checking? - Is power steering failure relevant? Electrical issues?
Thanks! I've already learned so much from you all in the last few days just from browsing.
