Couldn't agree more - almond green is a very similar colour to one they used in the 60s too and IMHO is lovely. BTW, they did green leather of the shade you mention on the 35th on Sportpacks too - I have one with an interior that very colour ![]() Am currently speccing a new MINI and I'd jump at the chance of getting the colours you mention because I'm finding colour choice really limited to be honest. Again I couldn't agree more - I have a great 1997 Mini brochure (actually I have three copies..) that's got a lovely array of colours, in comparison the colour options on New MINIs seem terribly limited I have to say. Just to give you an idea here's the list: Solid colours Flame Red, White Almond, Electric Blue Clearcoat Metallic colours Charcoal, Platinum Silver, Kingfisher Blue, British Racing Green Pearlescent colours Nighfire Red, Tahiti Blue, Amaranth, Volcano Classic colours Almond Green, Yukon Grey, Surf Blue, Whitehall Beige Maybe they want to get people paying for more 'exciting' colours but even the metallic colours are IMHO terribly limited. That would be off poo brown would it not?

please bring back a solid black When ordering my cooper I wanted a solid black but to my supprise there were none available. I decided to go with chili red instead of astro black as it didnt look black at all in my dealers showroom!

Ahh Volcano. I always wanted a Ginger Mini! Before the '97 twin point colours you could get BRG in Solid, Metalic and Pearlescent It caused a lot of repair problems though hence why they limited it to metallic and that's exactly what my Cooper was. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's

i think what we will see with the new cars & moving forward is a deliberate move away from the retro & classic themes. bmw have staked out a solid future for the mini brand & don't want to wallow in the past too much. thats the mistake vw have made with the beetle - there's no way to take that concept forward now.

, I think you've given a good example of the fact that colours some people don't like will appeal to someone somewhere ![]() I agree, it's a lovely colour. Yes but I'm sure my 99 Cooper is BRG pearlescent - IIRC I was told that by a bodyshop whe they matched up some paint for it, which incidentally is a spot on match. Whilst you may be right, and remembering they're happy to trumpet the history of the car in some markets (e.g. USA) more than others but now have a section on the UK website covering the history of the car, I think doing that serves no particular purpose. After all having some classic colours available is hardly going to tarnish the brand and most people will remain unaware of their source anyway IMHO. Ah but that car is a bad pastiche - a (bad IMO) retro(ish) body stuck on Golf running gear - it's purely a marketing exercise and the bottom has fallen out of the market because people have realised this. Allowing for a few more colour options on the MINI, some of which might be close to classic colours, isn't going to sink the MINI brand IMHO. However it will offer more options in a car that's partly marketed as a vehicle that's individualistic and can be personalised more than any other car (at least in it's market segment). I think this would fit perfectly into MINI's marketing strategy rather than running contrary to it as you suggest. |
