Question Bonnet Sport Stripes = Badge Removal???

Hi There Guys,

Can anyone tell me if I am crazy for wanting to do the following:

I have ordered White Sports Stripes for the bonnet of my new Cooper S.

I would like to have the stripes go under the MINI badge as per the blue MINI and not around as per the red MINI.

I spoke to my parts department about this and they said that the stripes arrive pre-cut to go around the badge. I declined to ask if there is a difference between the Sport Stripes for a Cooper and a Cooper S.

My thinking is that they are probably the same, but that the stripe is then cut at the top of the air intake and again at the bottom for the Cooper S. Thereby splitting the original 2 stripes into 6 pieces and then only applying 4 to the actual bonnet.

Here is what I would like to see happen. I would like them to cut the stripes at the top of the air intake and then lower the remaining pieces to the bottom of the air intake. Then they need to remove the badge and cut the stripes again at the bottom lip of the bonnet. Doing it this way would allow for them to avoid the precut badge section at the bottom of the stripes.

What I am concerned about however is the removal and re-bonding of the actual badge. I am concerned about two things. Damage to the paintwork or body and will there be issues with moisture building up between the badge and the vinyl and than possibly causing rust damage in the future?

Any input would be much appreciated

if this is BMW adding the stripes then the there should be no damage at all to the paintwork and i dont see any reason why they cant do it the way you want! your the customer paying for the service so i dont see why they wont! if they do, do it and you get it how you want i really dont think ther will be any moisture or rust problems at all!

hope this helps

The badge is plastic and the metal works under the paint... can't see a rust issue, if anything the vinyl protects the paintwork I would think.

I'm all for genuine MINI parts and all but as this is so specific I'd just hit your local commerical vehicle graphics shop and have them make this item... they'll even apply in most cases and chances are... will be better at it than someone at BMW who does it every now and again... save money and get what you want.. win win!

just for ref, the bdge is only stuck on and has little allignment pins so it can easily be removed and stuck back in the same place.. or replaced if you break it.
Just my 2 cents...

Thank you OneDriver! I have had some graphics done by a local guy on my R56 that I was not happy with. I decided to go 100% OME with my R56, so will have the work done via BMW. Thank you for the comments.
