R56 JCW Aero Kit - ground clearance issues?

For those who have picked up their R56's with the aero kit fitted - are you having any issues with the front scraping the ground during normal everyday driving? Does the car need to be driven any differently to that of a standard MCS?

I don't want to destroy my £1,000 investment going slightly too fast over one of Edinburgh's speed bumps, or for that matter having to reroute my journeys to avoid the humps

You have to watch it on speed bumps. Some speeds bumps I go over r-e-a-l-l-y s-l-o-w-l-y and I still ground it!

Saw a R56 with aero in Bluewater yesterday...I can safely say that its way way higher for ground clearance than my R53 used to be before lowering...can't see it having a problem, more than any other car.

I have found the small vertical pieces under the bumper will scrape the ground when leaving My inclined driveway , but My R50 facelift did the same , and its only the little plastic bits ,

I found the vertical plastic bits on either side were catching on speed bumps. I took them off, trimmed them back, refitted them and have had no issue since. Not quite sure what their purpose is but certainly haven't noticed any negatives since adjusting them.

I think they are a sort of strengthening lip to stop the bumper flexing as much. On the R53 aero they went all across the bottom and caught all the time.

Thumbs up

I have had no problems with mine, but I have always driven very slowly over speed bumps etc, (even in my previous Mini without the kit)

I have the aerokit and eibach lowering springs and I have now completely ripped off the 2 plastic bits that are on the far left and right underneath the front bumper.

Now it doesn't scrape at all

It is a slight concern of mine...I don't have the kit yet but i'm on the virge of ordering one- but my car scrapes coming up my drive as it is, so how much lower is the front valance than the standard bumper?

I don't think its that much lower its just the stupid plastic flaps that scrape all the time. They seem totally pointless and well as mine have now been ripped off by speed bumps it doesn't really matter anymore

My R56 scrapes far less than my R53 did with eibachs. Infact it very rarely scrapes at all.

I thought that may have been the case - it's those scuttle panel things that scrape on my drive anyway so I think i'll just dismiss it and order the kit.

I also have a problem with ground clearance. I have just had to replace Both of my Bumper deflectors. I have speed bumps near my house and normally go over them around 5MPH as im used to my old R50 that had a front deffuser that was really low. Even at 5MPH i still tore one of and snapped the other. my girlfriend was amazed that i broke them at that speed, the speed bumps aren't that big either.

The JCW KIT is 3.5" from the floor as standard and does scratch alot.

BUT the good thing is that the only thing that scratches is the Deflectors and they are only £14.00 for the pair so if you do break them they are easily replaced. And if you don't like hearing them scratch you can simply just remove them.

SO YOUR NOT ALONE IN THINKING IT HAS ISSUE'S.

Joe
