R56 Aero Kit - Ugly Betty?

Listen - some will read this post and decide that I should be placed on America's Most Wanted list immediately below Bin Laden. To you, I really apologise. To those that have just ordered a R56 and ticked 'that box' I will be throwing myself on the sword any time in the next 24 hours so please don't hunt me down!

Is it me or is the new Aero kit just bogging ugly? It's worse from the back! It has changed the charm of the MINI into a stablemate of the Saxo.

I really don't like it. The first Gen kit was moderately understated - the new kit screams steal me/drug dealer inside/give me a speeding ticket/don't touch my ho or I'll punch yer lights out coz I'm er pimp (delete as applicable)

Sorry

Pics of 1st Gen and current aero kit cars would be useful. I had an aero kit on a '53 Works and it was very nice - I haven't seen the R56 with an aero kit on it so can't comment.

OK gone and had a look. Yikes someone could have warned me. I don't want to offend any M2er's but I would agree it's a big change from the 1st version and not something I would choose.

Funnily enough, I was just talking about this last night at one of our club meets.

I agree with you Louis, it's nowhere near as nice as the 1st Generation kit and, on the Cooper S, is not enough of a difference from the standard bumpers.

On the R53, with the slatted front grille, the Aero Kit really stood out, but now that they both have the same grille (granted the chrome border is a differential) they look too similar to really stand out.

The Cooper on the other hand is improved by the Aero Kit, but that may just be my opinion based on never having been a huge fan of the chrome front grille slats?

I agree, Scrogg. The MCS should stay as is, the MC needs something else.

The current Mrs. Louisthethird and I went out last night. We parked next to a 07 MC, PS (like my ONE) and with the 16" 5-Star style wheels (forget the name!). To be honest, from the outside, my ONE looked far better. The aero grille on mine looked fab and my wheels (16" 5-Stars) looked a good two inches bigger.

The R56 MCS is another issue - looks great (doesn't work but looks the part - like David Beckham!) and there would be no comparison with my ONE but, last night - from the outside in the dark - the R56 MC needs a boost!

I personally think the rear bumper of the Aero kit looks hideous, and does not blend in with the overall design of the car. The rest of it looks ok to me.

No more exhaust burble (in the US market) but now you get nice valve clatter engine noise!

Starting threads for no other purpose, than to slag off what others have put on there MINI's is seriously bad form IMHO .

Asking people's views is hardly slagging it off, is it?

Are people that don't like something less entitled to voice their opinions than people that do?

So far, apart from you and CooperS4us' random post about exhaust/engine noises, everyone that has posted agrees with Louis' view to some extent, so clearly he is not alone...

As with everything Mini2 it's all a matter of personal taste what you choose to do to your car. It's the ultimate car for individual style. Surely that's what makes owning a Mini so much fun!

So everyone won't like it..... who cares as long as you do.

Always reverse park into a space then Olly....or close your eyes when you open the boot.

There is no asking of opinions in the first post, just a childish "mines better than yours" rant. Threads like this are just a waste of server space.
