I used to keep being stopped when I had my MR2 - for no particular reason just to check the car over......just so happens that it was also always late night either on a Friday or a Saturday.
I have been pulled over a couple of weeks ago for having my foglights on (tut tut, I know) and they didn't say anything about my windows even though I know they had clocked them.
For having long hair, wearing a black leather bikers jacket and a Motorhead T shirt.....and for driving a Ford Capri. I don't have the hair or the jacket anymore, but I still have the T shirt, Bomber tour 1980!
It was a different time to the one we live in now, when men were men and women grew on trees! And you could be stopped just because they didn't like the way you looked, allegedly.
25 yrs ago, if you were driving late at night or in the early hours of the morning, perhaps driving back from a girlfriend's house etc, you could almost guarantee that you would be stopped. You would be breathalyzed and searched for drugs and your car would be checked for bald tyres etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking anyone. I reckon we need more Stop and Search, perhaps then we would get the illegal cars and drivers off the road. Because I knew I was probably going to get stopped, I made sure that I and my car were 100% legal.
I used to Drive an Alfa 155 with the touring car homologation bits. If i was going to london / al least once a week, id set off about 4:00am.
I was pulled over at leat once a month getting to the motorway. One time I received a court summons for driving over 50mph in a 30!!!.... Oh no i wasnt! Told the magistrate so too. Reduced to £30 fine.
".....fifteen of us in crisp packet in middle of road. We used to wake up an hour before we went to bed, eight days a week. And we thought we were lucky".
