Goodbye Astro Black; hello ???

Copied from: MotoringFile | MINI Cooper news, reviews and opinion.

Say goodbye to Astro Black. 2008 will be the last year for the color that has been in the MINI palette since 2004. In it’s place will a darker metallic black closer to the revered Jet Black available from 2001 through 2005. Expect this new black to be available at the start of the 2009 model year (late this summer).

For those who are waiting for a non-metallic black (which was available from 2002 to 2005) we have one piece of advice… don’t hold your breath.

I don't care to be honest! I love the astro black and lucky to have ordered one recently . Shame it's going because it's what made me buy a MCS + JCW Aero Kit!

Why can't they just offer a non-metalic and metalic version?

YAY! I love Astro black but not really a black but a very dark blue.... I did think they were missingo ut on a black black and sounds like they have thought that too!

He posts is because its news Dooper and welcome to the MINI world they have been doing this forever adding taking away, never will your car be dated but more rare and sought after so don't feel it a bad thing! MINI only had velvet red and silk green for 2 years at the most - they are lovely and those that love them look out for them and consider them rare.

Laura - I'm struggling to understand that ... are you using some Pompey dialect or had you had a couple of drinks before posting?

Well it was my birthday so maybe!

I was trying to say that Astro black isn't as black as some would like. It would be nice to have a real black option again. Which they took away in 2005.

Also Dooper (who posted above) said that if MINI stop Astro Black then his car will be dated. I was trying to say that MINI stop and start new colours all the time it doesn't make your car dated but sought after. Some people went out of their way to find a solid black MINI making them sought after even if MINI decided to stop it. It will be the same for Astro Black as it is a lovely very popular colour.

I hope that is clearer for you.

TBH, I have rarely seen Astro Black MINIs around. Especially in R56 form. It's mostly the blues, reds and greys which I guess are the most popular.

I'm trying to make mine as unique as possible with the JCW Aero Kit, JCW Spoiler and R109 alloys . Not long to go for moi .

Champion. Well, mine was 'dated' when I bought it (in Dec 06), and dated now, even though they still do the colour ... Pure Silver. Although my mandate is 'buy what you like, not what happens to be fashionable or safe'.

Really? Cos Astro Black is really popular.

There are 472 registered users who have filled in their profile that have Astro black on this website. The colour has only been available since 2005. There are 2270 registered users who have Chilli Red (The most popular colour) and thats been available since 2001! Pepper White which is I would say has become the second popular colour has only 743 registered users who have filled in their profile and thats also been available since 2001.

Laser has 95 and Lightning has 120.

This is to only the people who have filled in their profiles though so not actually the bible but maybe a good tool?

That's interesting to know! Maybe I am wrong, but here in the south-east, I see red's, yellows, grey's and blue's more often than any other colour.

I for one would love the return of Jet black....although I my R56 is all astro and looks good, just not the same as a non metallic.

As for being unusual I see two other AB/AB R56 MCS's on the way to work most mornings...so common enough here

Bring back Solid Black!

The MC you see in my sig would have been Solid Black if it were availble as Astro black is too blue and not stealthy enough, and this new metallic colour looks like MINI just wanting customers to continue to pay extra for black paint.
