I think you may have misunderstood what MINIAC was saying. You implied previously that the JCW wheels are only for the the JCW cars. I think he was picking up on this point as its not the case...the JCW wheels are just a different design of wheel with JCW badging. There is no reason why these could not be fitted to an MCS and impact the ride differently to a JCW.

Also, the MCS was not specifically designed for 16" alloys, this is just what comes supplied as standard. The suspension setup is tested with all wheel variations offered for the model, i.e. 16", 17" and 18" variants.

Correct and the BMW-MCS was designed for 16" wheels, 17" was an upgrade as I understand.

just to add another spanner in the works ,a friend of mine has a mini one has put 18 inch alloys on, no problems at all, no rubbing no steering limiters , they said the ride is harder, but the ride is harsh on the run flats , well mine is

I upgraded my old golf from 15" to 18" rims and the ride was harder. Top speed was 4mph higher too. Otherwise i dont see any real problems with having 18's on your mini, only real issue is to watch out for rubbing. Clearance wont be an issue as the car will actually sit slightly higher off the road.
